My Business Profile

My background and my motives

I feel that I am privileged as I am one of the few young people in Tanzania who can study at the university.

Beside my studies, I have to work. I need to earn money. In Africa, we have to be flexible and do various jobs, simply to survive. I partly work for KIRSEC, an Internet café in Kilosa where TalkShop / 2CG® English coaching is offered to youngsters from the village and rural area. I like to teach English and I also enjoy helping members of TalkShop Kilosa to develop their English and Internet skills.

My business goals

My plan is to be an ambassador and a business man. In the future, I want to own a bus company that will operate in Tanzania and even in East Africa.

But to start with, I want to open a tele-center at Gairo, providing computer training and Internet services in the rural area.I want to provide Internet services to students who live in Gairo village.

These services will include viewing college/examination results, exam registration, online registration for OLAS (higher education students loan body) and CAS (Tanzania commission for universities).

I also want to give students the opportunity to get additional English coaching, computer training and book research on the Internet. Through my service, students who live  in this rural town will have access to the Internet, meaning they will have access to learning material. I want to make sure that the massive failure rate in form four classes will be reduced. A lot of students fail because there is a lack of books in schools.

I want to improve the current situation.

Erick, I have a few questions:
    1. what is the minimum equipment which you need in Gairo so that the internet cafe there can start to get some income?
    2. What do you think will be the first service that the cafe will offer?
    3. Who do you think will be the first customers? And why will they pay for the service?

      Hi Erick,

This is a long list. It is certainly all useful material. You gave me a list for a full scale internet cafe in Gairo even before you have any experience with internet there. As an investor I would ask you: How big is the loan you need from me to buy all this equipment? And then you have to show me that you are capable of immediately making enough income from all this equipment to pay the interest and the paying back installments of this big loan. You see the problem? My question was: What is the MINIMAL equipment you need. You gave me a list of the maximum equipment you need.

So I suggest that you need to start as small as possible in order to keep your first loans as small as possible before you can start earning some cash. Otherwise it is too risky.

So you need to think hard:
What is the absolulely minimum equipment you need to make a first income? For instance I believe that a single laptop with a single modem and a camera and a small printer can already earn some first cash. What do you think?

      Ueli

What about the other two questions which I asked and which you need to answer in order to build this business?
      2. What do you think will be the first service that the cafe will offer?
      3. Who do you think will be the first customers? And why will they pay for the service?

Okay Ueli thats okay. I got you.
(I visited Gairo- Pandambili- Kibaigwa- Kongwa and Mpwapwa during Esater holiday and see the situation.
In Gairo there is no siingle internet cafe and this is a required service there as far as there is big population and the town has at least some movements of people doing various businesses. Near Gairo there is Kibaigwa which is a township council and there also no internet cafe.People of Kibaigwa have to travel up to Mpwapwa – Dodoma which is more far than coming to Gairo.
May be if we try to see minimum equipments which will make a business begin are as follows.
        1. One Computer room (house frame)
        2. Four (4) Computers (Desktops)
        3. One (1) Printer this is available
        4. Internet source. We may shift the dish at KIRSEC or we buy airtel modems for each computer. Mind you the dish is more effective, if we buy modems we will have to get desktops with higher RAM to facilitate speed.
        FIRST CUSTOMERS
        (i) Secondary and college students living in Gairo and its neighbor towns.
        (ii) Youths living in Gairo
(iii) Government officials in new district of Gairo
        (iv) Business men

        FIRST SERVICES TO PROVIDE
        – Internet services
        – typing and printing
        -Facebook
        – educational services such as application to various issues like HESLB, OLAS, SARIS, CAS

Above are the minimum equipments to begin.
later We may put other equipments such as a small coloured printer for printing the passpot sizes as in order to speed the other businesses
        Thank u.
